It's all About Construction this week :)

Our theme this week is construction! Today there was no shortage of tall towers, construction vehicles and creative building in our classroom this morning :)

The biggest hit of the day definitely the button building. The kids loved stacking the buttons onto the skewers. The colorful towers were bright and the children enjoyed exploring the different shapes, colors and sizes.

We also added corks into a bin of our blocks which gave the children a new material to build with which was lots of fun.

Our art activity was painting tire tracks. The children loved driving the construction vehicles in the paint and then cover their paper with tracks.

Construction week would not be complete without some diggers in the sand table :)
Happy Monday everyone :)

Spraying Stars

I love art but even more I love watching children try new experiences with art. I lucked out on the day that we made our "Night Skies" that Mother Nature was on our side. The children had a lot more free range outside to explore and had a blast creating their masterpieces.

Today I ate a rainbow!!!

We introduced an amazing program at Imagination Station! The prgram "Today I Ate a Rainbow" is a great way to get children excited and educated about eating fruits and vegetables. It has been a hit in our classroom. The children enjoy looking through their snacks to see if they are eating a part of "the rainbow". This is also a great tool for families! Want more info??? Here is their website http://www.todayiatearainbow.com/ and it's a Kelowna based family who started the program!

Week of Love

We hope everyone had an amazing Valentine's Day! The past week we talked about what Valentine's Day is and celebrated love. Thanks to all the parents who brought in all the yummy treats for our parties. The children had a blast handing out their cards to their friends. The children loved our love ducks and sparkly stones in the water table. There were hearts and love everywhere this week! I hope you felt it :)

Valentine's Day is also the day the one of my best friends and former teaching partners past away on. I wanted to share this with you as I think it is very important to remember and celebrate such a special person and amazing teacher. Laura excelled in making special cupcakes for all occasions and made the best felt board stories I have ever seen. Thinking about you always Laura. xoxoxo

Just had to share.....

I love watching the children as their eyes while listening to a story. Our listening center has been an amazing addition to our classroom.
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go."

Shadows and Groundhogs

This week we are talking about Groundhog Day. Within each theme there are so many opportunities to teach and explore. We started by creating our own groundhogs and then we talked about what Groundhog Day is. We discussed and how the groundhog looks for his shadow to see if it will still be winter. We then followed through by exploring our own shadows and explaining to the children that a shadow is when sunlight is blocked by an object. The children love watching their shadows.

The children took a vote and more of them think that Groundhog will see his shadow! I am hoping they are wrong so we can start Spring off sooner then later!!!

Musical Painting

I just had to showcase this art activity and some of our little artists at work. This week we are talking about Emotions. Our art activity of the day was a free painting activity to music. Music can unleash emotions in us all so I was excited to see the outcome of this project. I divided their papers in two sections. I played Mozart while they painted in the first half of their paper and the Wiggles while they painting on the second half.

I was intrigued and excited as I watched the children paint to the music. They took their time painting while listening to the Classical music. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed and they took their time exploring the colours on their paper. When I changed the music to the upbeat Pop the children became more excited. Some of the kids then stood up to paint and even dance and sing while creating their art. I found that they made quicker and shorter strokes with their paint brushes. I could see the difference in their emotions due to the change of music.

I will let you be the judge to see if you can see the difference in the two sides of their art! Happy Wednesday everyone!!!

Five Senses Week!

Last week was all about tasting, touching, feeling, smelling and hearing! We put our Five Senses to work by guessing smells in our smelling jars, touching different textures with our fingers on our touching posters, using the magnifying glasses look closer at objects and our hearing to check our book of the week at the Listening Centre. We saved our sense of taste for snack time when we also talked about our taste buds.

This coming week we are talking about Emotions! I am starting to get back parent consent forms to post pictures so hopefully I can make this blog a lot more animated soon by showing off some of your cuties :)

My First Blog ~ Be kind

Today was a great day at Imagination Station Preschool! This week we are learning about our five senses. The children loved playing in the sticky spaghetti table and painting with spaghetti while using their sense of touch. I took some great pictures I will post at the preschool :) The new listening centre is a huge hit! What a good way to start the week!

I will start posting photos online (with parent consent only) so you can share them with your families! Hope the rest of the week is this good!
